"HANDSHAKE OF THE CENTURY" 1ST SHAKE W/ JACKIE ROBINSON
George Shuba was a utility in fielder and pinch hitter for the great Brooklyn Dodger teams of the 50's. He appeared in three World Series and won one in 1955. Shuba was the first player to ever hit a pinch hit home run in a World Series game. His on the field work made far less of an impact then helping to break the color barrier. Shuba while playing for a farm team offered a congratulator handshake to Jackie Robinson after Robinson hit a monster home run. This was the first interracial handshake to be documented with a photograph in baseball history.
George Shuba has hand signed this framed 16x20 photograph of the New York Times cover "A Handshake for the Century."
